One agent.
Many applications.

F-500 EA makes handling today’s high-hazard incidents safer, faster and easier than ever before. While other agents may aid in extinguishing a specific class of fire, F-500 EA is a powerful multi-class preventative, protector and mitigating agent. F-500 EA safely extinguishes Class A, B, C (energized environment), D, and lithium-ion battery fires.

FIREFIGHTING

F-500 EA keeps your people, assets and property safer and healthier while reducing damage.

SAFETY   F-500 EA eliminates scalding steam and reduces smoke by 97%, improving visibility. Additionally, F-500 EA’s rapid knockdown means up to 20x less time spent in IDLH environments.

EFFICIENCY  F-500 EA’s rapid knockdown capabilities translate to less time, less water, less runoff and less stress on personnel.

HEALTH  F-500 EA is 100% fluorine-free, noncorrosive and reduces cancer-causing toxins by over 98%, drastically reducing health risks and improving air quality.

Application: Lithium-ion Battery Fires

Lithium-ion batteries contain high energy densities and diverse materials. As such, Li-ion battery fire is multi-class, will emit toxic gasses & flammable electrolytes, and is significantly harder to put out than other type of fires.

01

F-500 EA encapsulates the flammable electrolytes,
rendering them non-flammable.

02

F-500 EA droplets rapidly reduce heat,
stopping thermal runaway.

03

F-500 EA reduces toxic vapors,
including fluoride gasses.

FUEL SPILL CONTROL

F-500 EA rapidly encapsulates Class B fuel spills, tanking LELs and rendering flammable spills non-ignitable.

SAFETY  F-500 EA provides complete fuel neutralization, compared to Foam, which offers a temporary blanket. F-500 EA is 100% fluorine free, while toxic PFAS/PFOA chemicals in foam continue to contaminate our soil, bodies of water and poison aquatic life.

EFFICIENCY F-500 EA creates a safe scene within as little as 30 seconds, producing very little runoff, which translates to minimal, if any, cleanup and property damage. AFFF foam must be applied for 15 minutes, then re-applied, which amounts to hefty cleanup costs.

Application: Fuel Fires

Fuels are highly combustible and have significant risk of explosion. This hazard is ever-present in the petrochemical industry, i.e. fuel spills, overturned tank trucks, fuel tank degassing & cleaning and pipeline devaporization.

01

F-500 EA reduces surface tension by saturating wet surface areas and increase penetration into fuel pores.

02

F-500 EA rapidly and permanently cools the fire, from 650°C to 53°C in seconds and allowing burnback resistance.

03

F-500 EA encapsulates hydrocarbon liquids & vapors, and renders materials non-flammable.

F-500 EA vs AFFF Foams

F-500 EA is a superior replacement for AFFF Foams against fuel fires.

F-500 EA
AFFF Foams
Encapsulation
Neutralizes hydrocarbon molecules which become permanently non-flammable and non-ignitable.
AFFF foam has no molecular effect on hydrocarbon molecules or any fuel.
Three-Dimensional Fires
• Vertical surfaces
• Transformers
• Pressurized piping
Highly effective for three-dimensional fires since it does not rely on a blanket of foam to smother a fire.
As per NFPA 11, Foam is not suitable for three-dimensional flowing liquid fuel fires or gas fires.
Heat Reduction
Drastically reduces the temperature of the fuel and surrounding structures via thermal conveyance.
Foam blankets will trap the heat. If the trapped heat exceeds the autoignition temperature of the fuel, reignition can occur.
Smoke and Toxic Soot
Tests show smoke is reduced by 97%, increasing visibility, and soot toxicity is reduced by 98.6%.
Most of the toxic soot remains trapped under the blanket of foam.
Practicality
Just need to carry one agent to be used (at 3%) on all Class B fires – i.e. both polar and non-polar solvents.
Require carrying AFFF for polar solvent fires (gasoline, diesel, lubricants, jet fuel) and AR-AFFF (3x6) foam for ethanol fuel fires.
Environmental
Ecological agent containing no Fluorine, and is non-corrosive, non-toxic and biodegradable. Listed as a surface washing agent by the EPA.
Contains PFAS which are toxic, known to negatively impact human health (cancerous) and do not easily break down in the environment.

Rigorously Tested

01

KIWA (Dutch certification body) test no. 16120045 concluded that F-500 was better able to achieve suppression on lithium-ion batteries than standard powder or foam. It can reliably stop the spread of fire caused by thermal runaways and prevent reignition.

02

A research paper from Beijing Institute of Technology, China (1) concluded that F-500 is highly effective against thermal runaway due to its ability of rapid and permanent heat absorption. 3% F500 EA’s cooling ability is 3 times that of water mist.

03

As stated in NFPA 18A, F-500 EA forms stable, spherical micelles and is able to permanently and sustainably extinguish lithium-ion battery fires.

04

In 2021, F-500 EA successfully completed several testing trials required to achieve the Dutch NTA 8133 standard – the first publication that deals with Li-ion batteries up to 600 Wh.

05

In 2023, a detailed experimental study for battery fire is conducted at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Pittsburgh, which indicated that water mist with F-500 EA additive is the most effective suppressant among all the agents tested (which included ABC powder other water mists with different flow rates, and type D dry chemical).

Widely used

01

In 2013 at the Barcelona Formula 1 Grand Prix, Hockenheim Circuit tested and accepted F-500 EA as their only firefighting agent, replacing all foam.

02

In 2016, Jaguar standardized the usage of F-500 EA for Li-ion battery hazard protection.

03

In 2016, Tesla specified F-500 EA and installed the first F-500 EA powered fire suppression system, engineered and designed for battery charging areas at the Tesla Giga Factory in Sparks, NV.

04

In 2022, Port Authority of New York & New Jersey tested and implemented the utilization of F-500 EA for Li-ion battery fire suppression.
